Austin

Austin is a boy that I have worked with every summer since he was in first grade. He is currently in fifth grade. Austin has autism. He is a real inspiration to a lot of people in my hometown and so a short documentary was made about him. Here is a promo for his documentary.

  1. Karen,
I absolutely love this video! I have been working at a camp for student's with special needs since I was 10, and have been a director at the camp since I turned 18. Unfortunately, last year the camp could not take place due to a lack of financial resources so it was really refreshing to view your video and enter into the world of a child similar to the ones I miss so dearly! Thanks for sharing..

  2. This looks really interesting. You will have to let me know when the movie comes out. I like being able to see a point of view from all angles and it looks like that is what the documentary will show with the teachers, parents, friends, and of course Austin.

  3. Karen,

That was very interesting to watch. He seems like he is a wonderful child and thank you for sharing this with us. I am not a special education degree but after seeing videos like this and knowing I could have the opportunity to work with such children, I begin to wonder if I want to change my major!

  4. Karen,

I was just reading through some old blogs (because I am done, and bored!) and I came across this post. I loved the short video, and i would love to see the documentary when it comes out. It appears as if Austin has a very loving community of people that support him. Please let me know when the documentary is out :) Thanks!
